Sunday Service - 10 a.m. |
|
Welcome to one of Paducah's warmest, most open-minded
worship experiences! As you enter the sanctuary, no
one will ask you to put on a tie or leave your brain
and life experience at the door. Following Jesus'
example, you can count on being accepted for who you
are - questions and all. Our worship is at once lively
and traditional, a balance that both anchors us in
grace and sets each of us free to serve God in life-giving
ways. Music here is a juicy mix of contemporary and
classical. Expect the unexpected when it comes sermon
time - particularly if you've outgrown the faith of
your childhood. As worship ends, you'll return to
the world energized, hope-filled, and certain you
are loved... by God and by us. There's a place in our
pews just for you! |

Yoga - Mondays & Thursdays, 4-7 p.m. |
Jesus taught what he lived. Because this was his
experience, Jesus proclaimed that we need not seek connection with God
only in high places like the Temple but indeed can know and worship God
inwardly, through our bodies and spirits.
With this in mind, United Church of Paducah is delighted
to share space with Tim Whitaker and True North Yoga. Although yoga
predates the Christian tradition, it is compatible with Christ's teachings and,
if desired, can be used to great effect in deepening relationship with the
God that Jesus loved, serves, and shared with others.
We encourage you to visit True North
Yoga's website
for more information. |

Survivors of Suicide Support Group - First
Tuesday of each month, 7 p.m. |
|
Recognizing that losing a friend or loved one to suicide
brings with it a unique kind of grief, this group offers a
safe and caring community to foster healing. Members of the group are themselves
mourning someone who
died by suicide and are ready to offer empathy and
compassion, courage and
confidentiality. People of all faiths, no faith, and
faltering faith are welcomed wholeheartedly. |
|
Book Lover's Club - Third Monday of each
month, 1 p.m. |
|
If you love to read, join us for some stimulating
conversation and company! We meet monthly at Market
Square Coffee in downtown Paducah to discuss our current selection.
We read a variety of books and look for a message
that opens our hearts and minds. It's fun, casual
and sure to challenge you to look at literature in
a new light. Please send an
email if you are interested. |

Dinner for 8 or 18 - When the mood strikes |
|
Some critics
thought of Jesus as a glutton and a drunkard because he
wasn't afraid of a party. Neither are we! Whenever the mood
strikes, we'll meet up at someone's house for an evening of
feasting and even a bit of responsible imbibing. These
gatherings are informal and no one goes away regretting the
fun they've had. |

Jesus Goes To The Movies - When the mood
strikes |
|
Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ aside, most
contemporary films don't have much religious content. That doesn't mean that they
can't shed light on our spiritual journeys. Come join
fellow film-lovers as we sample some of the best Hollywood
has to offer and then stick around as we explore the
spiritual themes and life lessons we find tucked inside. |

Ministering in Christ's Name |
|
"Love your neighbor as yourself" Jesus was
quick to teach. Here at United Church of Paducah,
we are always looking for ways to make a difference
in the lives of neighbors far and near. We are actively
involved with Broadway United Methodist Church's Community
Kitchen, making sure our brothers and sisters here
in town have enough to eat.
We also support Paducah
Cooperative Ministry - their food bank and homeless
shelter make a huge difference in our area. Heifer
Project International and Habitat for Humanity are
two vital charitable organizations that we're thrilled
to help support.
